Code of Conduct
One word: Respect. The Scrapyard was created to be a safe environment for everyone to come train hard and reach their goals in community. For this reason, we have a Zero Tolerance Policy when it comes to any form of harassment (verbal and non-verbal) or unacceptable behavior.
Examples include but are not limited to:
- All forms of harassment
- Inappropriate touching
- Sexual remarks towards another person
- Racism
- Religious discrimination
Anyone who is found to be in violation of this policy will be asked to leave immediately and their membership will be terminated. We hold this standard for everybody in the gym, including coaches and employees. For this reason, all of our employees and coaches are Safe Sport certified, and carefully vetted to prevent any potential incidents.
If you, or someone you know, experiences anything that makes them feel uncomfortable at The Scrapyard please bring it up to us immediately. You can chat with us in person, via phone call, or through email. We will work to maintain full confidentiality (barring safety considerations) and ensure any concerns are addressed fully. If you feel uncomfortable and aren’t sure it’s worth reporting…report it. We’d rather err on the side of caution to ensure the training room and community is safe for everyone who walks through our doors.
Your safety is our utmost priority, and at Scrapyard we don’t stand for any forms of disrespect, harassment, or poor behavior towards others.
Facility Rules
We all share the training room together. This means not only respecting your coaches and fellow teammates, but also the facility.
- Lost and Found: Every member is responsible for their own items. Any left items will be discarded after a week.
- Sweaty items (rashguard, shorts, socks, etc.) will be discarded immediately if left after training sessions for sanitary reasons.
- No athletes should be alone in the training facility without a coach present.
Safety Rules
In terms of safety, outside of the rules of the sport (no striking, etc.) there are two other techniques that we ban from the gym:
- Kani basami (flying scissor takedowns)
- Jumping guard
While we understand that these are used in competitions, we have a responsibility to make our training as safe as possible while being able to train effectively. When used recklessly, both techniques can cause catastrophic injury, and so we ask that people refrain from using them.
